New Music: Joe Budden – Slaughtermouse

Joe Budden – Slaughtermouse

It was only last month we were hearing rumours that Joe Budden was about to go in on Royce and Em with a diss on his upcoming album. Royce even took to twitter to confront the fellow slaughterhouse member saying ‘I heard you dissed me and em on your album… you sure you want that problem?. Well either there was never such a track or Budden has thrown it in the trash because his latest track titled Slaughtermouse is an open letter giving nothing but praise to his Shady Records boss Eminem. Throughout the track Budden spits some emotional bars comparing his life to Em’s and asking the Rap God for some advice. He also gives praise to Royce and expresses how much joy it gave him to see him and Em get back together with Bad Meets Evil saying ‘When Bad Met Evil, nigga who was happier than me?/ You woulda thought it was my album and I was on that shit’.

Slaughtermouse will feature on Budden’s upcoming album All Love Lost which is scheduled for an October 16 release. The track is produced by none other than araabMUZIK who provides a chilled and somewhat spiritual beat which fits perfectly with Budden’s deep lyrics. If you’re loving this track than make sure you head over to iTunes and pre-order the album as you will receive Slaughtermouse as an instant download.

So it seems like it’s nothing but love in the Shady Records fam! Check out Slaughtermouse below and cop All Love Lost on October 16. I wonder if Em will pen a letter back….

Review: Eminem & Shady Records – SHADY XV

Eminem & Shady Records – Shady XV

Shady XV is exactly what we have come to expect from Eminem these days, the album features a few good tracks mixed in with a larger portion of average ones. Shady XV is not just Eminem’s album though, the record celebrates 15 years of Shady records and features tracks from past and present members. Disc One has all new material from all current Shady Records artists including 5 new Eminem Tracks whilst Disc Two features the best tracks from past and present members of the label.

Eminem gets the ball rolling with the opening track SHADYXV and I must say its one of the better joints on the album. Em goes hard out on this five minute explosion, spitting straight bars for the entire track not stopping for a single second. Unfortunately the rest of the solo Eminem tracks aren’t really worth talking about, Fine Line and Right For Me feature Em’s new awkward flow that I just can’t get into whilst Guts Over Fear has that Recovery feel to it which I’m sure the new fans will love however; the older die hard fans with find it quite disappointing. Die Alone sees a more slowed down and polished flow but it still doesn’t do enough to really raise any eyebrows.

I think its safe to say that Royce brings out the best in Em and this is evident on their Bad Meets Evil track Vegas. Both MC’s bring their A game for this verbal onslaught, you could say that Royce almost steals the limelight not just here but throughout the whole album. Psychopath Killer is one of my proffered joints on Disc One, the hard hitting track features Royce and Crooked I of Slaughterhouse and both of them spit killer verses. Em takes out the third verse and whilst he sounds dope it does begin to fall into that new flow where it sounds like he is trying to fit too many words into one sentence. Yelawolf provides the hook and surprisingly does an incredible job (this would be one of the only times I actually enjoy him).

My favourite track on Disc One is the Slaughterhouse’ DJ Premier produced Y’all Ready Know. Premo brings that boom bap sound while each member of Slaughterhouse completely destroy their verses. D12 make their long awaited return however; its a disappointing one. I was really looking forward to hearing some new material from them but to be honest after hearing Bane I think I would have proffered not hearing anything at all.

As I mentioned before Disc Two features the best tracks from past 15 years of Shady Records. 50 Cent makes five appearances with I Get Money, In Da Club, P.I.M.P, Wanksta and You Don’t Know which also features Eminem, Lloyd Banks and Cashis. After listening to their poor track on Disc One its good to hear some classic jams from D12 such as Purple Pills, My Band and Fight Music. Eminem decides to add his Grammy award winning hit Lose Yourself and on top of that he includes a demo version of the song that he supposedly found in the vault whilst coming up with what tracks to put on the Disc. Whilst the version we all know and love today is definitely better the demo version is still a cool listen.

Look overall Shady XV is an average album, Disc One has two or three tracks that will probably make your playlist however; the rest will live in the background of your iTunes and while Disc Two features some amazing tracks chances are you already own them.

Eminem & Shady Records set to release 66 track mixtape!

With the release of SHADY XV just around the corner you would think that would be it in terms of releases for the Shady Records crew this year. However; news has just emerged that Eminem & Shady Records will be releasing a 66 track mixtape (Yes 66!) which is scheduled to drop sometime next week. DJ Whoo Kid who is managing the double disc tape announced the news on Rap Rader’s SHADY VX Podcast yesterday whilst manager Paul Rosenberg raddled off a few tracks that will feature on the tape including Eminem’s version of Wanksta, Hey Ladies by Obie Trice and The Billion Dollar Remix of 50 Cent’s I Get Money (remix). By the sound of things I think the tape will be filled with unreleased hits and freestyles that unfortunately most die hard Eminem fans would have heard before. Hopefully they will surprise us with some really rare shit that we haven’t heard before, nonetheless I’m still looking forward to two Eminem releases in the same week! To tie you over until next week here is Eminem’s version of Wanksta. Enjoy.

Eminem – Detroit vs Everybody ft Royce Da 5’9”, Big Sean, Danny Brown, Trick Trick & Dej Loaf

Only hours after releasing the epic SHADY CXVPHER, Eminem has returned to bring us the feature heavy track Detroit vs Everybody. The 6 minute onslaught which will appear on the SHADY XV album features fellow Detroit rappers Royce Da 5’9”, Big Sean, Danny Brown, Trick Trick and Dej Loaf.
Produced by the legendary Statik Selektah this new track features some epic verses from some of Detroit’s finest however; it also features some un-necessary ones as well. Royce opens the track and is brilliant as usual, I really believe he has one of the best flows in hip hop at the moment and cannot wait for his new album with DJ Premier. Big Sean who I was sceptical about being on the record at first actually brings the heat and spits an incredible verse with a flow that fits perfectly to Statik’s solid beat. Eminem closes the track with his usual brilliance although I would have liked to see him go back to his old school flow for this one but nonetheless its still an epic performance.
Now for me the problem lies with Danny Brown, his verse is weak if you can actually understand what he is saying and just doesn’t fit in with the quality brought by the others. My next problem is with Dej Loaf, personally I think the track could have done without her. Straight bars without a hook would have been more epic but that’s only a minor problem. Trick Trick really doesn’t do anything so I don’t have anything to say about his appearance.
Overall its a quality track Royce, Sean and Em all bring their A game however; personally I think it could have been done a bit better.

Check the song out below and make sure you buy the album on the 24th of November!

In preparation for the release of SHADY XV Eminem, Slaughterhouse and Yelawolf have turned the heat up by dropping some of the craziest bars I think anyone has ever heard. Crooked I kicks things off with a rapid flow, spitting straight fire which completely dominates the next 2 minutes. Joe Budden’s up next with a much slower flow however; he definitely doesn’t disappoint with a solid performance spitting real shit. Now Yelawolf has never been a favourite of mine and I don’t think his verse does much to change that. I just can’t get into him, his voice, what he says I’m just not feeling it and I will never understand what Em sees in him but hey that’s just my opinion. Joell Ortiz throws in a polished performance however; it’s not long enough for him to shine and have a proper effect. Royce shows that he’s a class above most with his packed metaphors and killer flow proving that he is one of the best out there at the moment. Finally we are left with six and a half minutes of pure epicness from the one and only Eminem aka Slim Shady aka Marshall fucking Mathers. Every line that Em spits is unbelievable, his flow in next level (especially the last 30 seconds holy fucking shit!) and his wordplay is just unheard of. Eminem truly is a rap God and this 6 and a half minutes proves that he is the greatest rapper alive! truly amazing!
Check the full CXVPHER below and be sure to watch from start to finish, I guarantee it will be the best thing you hear all year.

Guess who’s back? Back again! That’s right it’s Slim MOTHERFUCKIN’ Shady and this time the hip hop icon has gathered everyone from his label for a compilation album celebrating 15 years of Shady Records. The album which is titled SHADY XV will be a two disc set featuring new material from current artists on the label plus classic tracks from past and present artists. The artwork for the album which is shown above features two chainsaws and a hockey mask made famous by Eminem on his Anger Management tour back in 2001. The tracklist for this epic album has also been released, disc one will feature all new material from current artists such as Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf, Bad Meets Evil plus a bunch of new Em tracks and also what I’m really looking forward to, a new track from D12! The final track on disc one is probably the most intriguing of the lot featuring Eminem alongside Danny Brown, Big Sean, Trick Trick and Royce Da 5’9. Disc two will be a best of from the last 15 years of Shady Records featuring tracks such as In Da Club by 50 Cent, The Setup by Obie Trice featuring Nate Dogg, Purple Pills by D12, plus a whole bunch of other classic tracks including an original demo version of Eminem’s Lose Yourself. The album is expected to drop on the 28th November, the day cannot come quick enough!

Check out the full tracklist below!

Yelawolf – Till It’s Gone
Yelawolf is back with a brand new track titled “Till It’s Gone” and to be honest its pretty average (like majority of his work). A lot of people are praising the southern rappers new sound however; I don’t see what all the hype is about, the acoustic guitar riffs and corny hook combine to create a soft rock vibe which really isn’t my cup of tea. Eminem who I consider to be the greatest MC of all time signed Yelawolf to Shady Records back in 2011 and to this day it is still a decision I will never understand, but hey that’s just my opinion.

Top 14 Most Anticipated Hip Hop Albums for the Remainder of 2014!

Artist: Q-Tip
Album: The Last Zulu

Over the last few years legendary MC Q-Tip has been hard at work behind the scenes working on production for artists such as Kanye West, Jay Z and John legend just to name a few. Recently its been reported that he will be working on kanye’s latest album this year however; 2014 also looks set to be the year he releases his fourth solo album titled “The Last Zulu”. Artist: Raekwon
Album: F.I.L.A (Fly International Luxurious Art)
Release Date: September 16th
Wu-Tang veteran Raekwon has been a busy man this year and only seems to be getting busier after the announcement of a Wu-Tang reunion with an album scheduled to drop later this year. On top of that he’s been working on his own highly anticipated sixth solo album “F.I.L.A (Fly International Luxurious Art)” which is set to hit stores on September 16th joining fellow hip hop artists 50 cent and the Game who also have albums dropping on the same date. It’s the chefs first solo effort since his 2011 album “Shaolin vs Wu Tang” which is why I’m so damn excited and if the albums first release “Call of Duty” which features R&B artist Akon is anything to go by we should be in for one hell of an album.

The Cool Kids
The Cool Kids
Album: Shark Week
Release Date: TBA
The Cool Kids are back! The creative minds of Chuck Inglish & Mikey Rocks have reunited to bring us their second studio album titled “Shark Week”. The funky duo from Michigan who have been on hiatus for almost three years told XXL magazine that they expect the album to be out later this year. Rumours are circling about who is going to feature on the album with Tyler the Creator topping the list. Earlier in the year they released the track “Computer School” which has their signature Cool Kids sound that really highlights the duos essence and is expected to be on the album. Their style is so fresh and so unique it’s exactly what the hip hop world needs right now.

Album: Doe or Die II
Release Date: TBA
Coming from the legendary man himself, AZ has announced that his upcoming LP “Doe or Die II” will be his last and final album. It’s been 19 years since the Brooklyn rapper released his debut LP “Doe or Die”, in that time he has produced eight incredible solo albums and is considered to be one of the most underrated rappers of all time. In an interview with Hiphopdx earlier in the year AZ stated that “Doe or Die II” might just be his best work yet and whilst he has yet to set a release date for the album it is expected to drop later this year. In a career that has spanned over nearly two decades and seen him collaborate with artists such as Nas, Raekwon and Dr.Dre, I think it’s safe to say AZ will go down as one of the greats and hopefully “Doe or Die II” will be a legendary send off.

Jay Electronica
Album: Act II: Patents of Nobility (The Turn)
Release Date: TBA
It’s being called the most anticipated debut album in hip hop history and whilst there is still no official release date the album is expected to drop later this year after Jay spoke to Hiphopdx promising his fans that 2014 is the year. It’s hard to believe that this will be the debut album from Jay who first came to life back in 2007 after the release of his mixtape “Act I: Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)” which is considered to be a timeless classic. The track list for “Act II” was released by Jay back in 2012 and featured artists such as Jay-Z, Kanye West and P. Diddy. In a recent interview with Hiphopdx Jay stated that the track list has changed slightly but only by a“few centimetres and a few new records”leaving us all anxious with anticipation.

Ice Cube
Album: Everythangs Corrupt
Release Date: October 21st
The king of gangsta rap is back and judging by the name of his latest album “Everythangs Corrupt” it seems the don mega has a strong political message to share with us all. Earlier in the year the hip hop veteran released the hard hitting track “Sasquatch” accompanied by a terrifying film clip portraying a bloody Cube as a serial killer hunting down a group of people as if it were a horror movie. His latest release titled “Drop Girl” however; is the complete opposite and has caused much up roar with his hard core fans who have labelled the track as commercial garbage. Cube replied by posting a video to his fans saying for everyone to “relax its just one song”. Love it or hate it there is still no denying that Ice Cube is one of the greatest to grace the game which is why I can’t wait for this album.

Statik Selektah
Album: What Goes Around
Release Date: August 19th
Coming in at number eight is the only non-rapper on the list; I’m talking about the very skilled and very talented Mr Statik Selektah. This will be the sixth studio LP from the legendary producer who has gathered up some amazing guests to feature on the album. The mix of old school legends such as Pharoahe Monch and Snoop Dogg with new school maestros like Joey Bada$$ and Freddie Gibbs is what makes it one of the most anticipated albums of the year. The first track released from the album is titled “Carry On” which features Joey Bada$$ and Freddie Gibbs rhyming over a soothing jazz influenced beat with a Classic Nas sample for the hook. Whoever said hip hop is dead needs to listen “Carry On” right now!

Kendrick Lamar
Album: TBA
Release Date: TBA
He’s one of the biggest names in hip hop right now and rightfully so after receiving worldwide success from his critically acclaimed debut major label album “Good kid m.A.A.d city” back in 2012. Two years on and the Compton rapper is preparing to release his sophomore album which currently does not have a title or release date however; it is expected to drop before the end of the year. In a recent interview with complex, Lamar stated that he has recorded around 30 to 40 tracks for the new album which will feature a few producers including beat maestro and mentor Dr.Dre. Kendrick’s unique style and amazing story telling ability is a breath of fresh air in a time where hip hop is being overshadowed by mainstream mediocrity, “GKMC” shook the rap game up let’s hope this album can shake it up a bit more.

Wu-Tang Clan
Album: A Better Tomorrow
Release Date: TBA
2014 has been the year of big reunions in the hip hop world we’ve seen the likes of Outkast, Bone Thugs and even G Unit get back together however; none have been quite as big as the reuniting of the mighty Wu -Tang Clan. Earlier in the month all living members (plus a ODB t-shirt) reunited on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart to talk about their new album and perform a new track titled “Ron O’Neal”. The track features quality verses from Meth, Inspectah Deck, Ghost and RZA with an R&B inspired hook that you wouldn’t normally expect from the Wu. Nonetheless it sounds dope and whilst no official release date has been set the album is expected to drop later this year. It’s been 21 years since their classic debut album “Enter The Wu -Tang (36 Chambers)” let’s hope they can bring the ruckus back.

Joey bada$$
Joey Bada$$
Album: B4DA$$
Release Date: TBA
If there is one artist you should be listening to right now its Joey Bada$$! His whole style and raw flow makes you feel like you’re in the 90s again which at times I bet we all wish we were. “B4DA$$” will be the Brooklyn rappers debut studio album with rumours speculating a mid-September release. Earlier in the month Bada$$ released the first single from the debut album titled “Big Dusty”, a very dark and hard hitting track that really highlights the rappers unique flow. Some big names have been lined up for production on the album with Q-Tip, DJ Premier, Pete Rock and Statik Selektah all working on the album. These days it’s rare to find artists like Joey Bada$$ however they are out there you just have to look in the right places.

Bishop Nehru & MF Doom
Album: NehruvianDOOM
Release Date: September 23rd
What do you get when you put a hip hop legend together with one of the games dopest up and coming MCs? You get NehruvianDoom, hip hops newest collaboration that looks set to flip the game on its head. Young gun Bishop Nehru and hip hop veteran MF Doom have teamed up to deliver one of my most anticipated albums of the year. The nine track LP will be Nehrus first feature on a major studio release, prior to this Nehru has released a few mixtapes which really got people talking due to his fresh style and solid flow. Doom will be producing the entire album and whilst he features on the hook for the duos latest release “OM”, fingers are crossed we will also hear the supervillain spit a few verses. For all the hip hop heads out there this is defiantly one album you don’t want to miss.

Busta Rhymes
Album: E.L.E.2 (Extinction Level Event 2)
Release Date: TBA
Back in 1998 hip hop legend Busta Rhymes released one of his greatest albums “E.L.E (Extinction Level Event): The Final World Front”, 16 years later and the New York rapper is preparing to release its highly anticipated sequel “E.L.E.2 (Extinction Level Event 2)”. Two tracks have already been released from the album including “Thank You” ft Q-Tip and “Calm Down” ft Eminem; both tracks are pure fire that showcases the vigorous energy that’s been missing from his recent work. On the production side of things Busta has recruited Swizz Beats, Rockwilder, Nottz and DJ Scratch who all appeared on E.L.E, along with some new beats from DJ Premier, Dr.Dre and the late J Dilla. This will be the rappers tenth album and whilst no release date has been set it is expected to hit stores later this year.

Shady Records
Release Date: November 28th
To celebrate the 15th anniversary of Shady Records, founder Eminem has decided to release a two disc compilation album featuring past and present artists from the label. One disc will feature several of labels greatest hits whilst the other disc will feature new music from the labels current artists Slaughterhouse, Yelawolf and D12. Yes you heard right, rumour has it D12 will be showcasing some new music on the album; this will be the group’s first release since the death of fellow member Proof back in 2006. Last month Eminem released a new track titled “Guts over Fear” featuring Sia which will appear on the album, the song shows the more serious side of Slim Shady who raps about his place in hip hop by looking back on his career. “Shady XV” is defiantly an album to get excited about; I mean new D12 material how could you not get excited.

meth & red
Method Man & Redman
Album: Blackout! 3
Release Date: TBA
If there’s one thing the hip hop world needs right now it’s red & meths highly anticipated third album “Blackout 3!” Ever since the pair released their debut record “Blackout!” back in 1999, hip hop fans like myself have been craving that raw sound. Ten years later we got our fix when they released “blackout! 2” and now with confirmation of “Blackout! 3” the hip hop world eagerly awaits for yet another fix. Whilst not much has been said about the album it is expected to drop this year with rumours circulating it could feature production from artists such as RZA, Rockwilder and Eric Sermon. Method Man & Redman are the definition of hip hop, the chemistry between them is like dynamite and it explodes when they get on the mic. I’m going to go out and say this will be album of the year!
